Q: How do I apply?

Q: Is the Advanced Center @ Virginia camp held on the University of Virginia campus?

A: Yes, the campers will live in air conditioned dorms on the grounds of The University of Virginia. All of the training sessions/games will be on the same fields that our Virginia Soccer program uses, which are among the best in the country.

Q: Where do I register?

A: Registration at Virginia will be at University Hall between 2 & 4 pm. Park and enter from the west side of University Hall. See campus map at http://www.virginia.edu/Map/.

Q: What does each camper receive?

A: Each camper receives two T-shirts and a Nike soccer ball.

Q: What happens if my child is sick or injured during camp?

A: There is around the clock medical supervision, which includes certified trainers at all sites during the duration of camp, as well as a trainer that resides in the dorms in case of emergency.

Q: What if my child is sick or injured and cannot attend camp? Do I get a refund?

A: Within one month prior to camp, there are no longer complete refunds, but they will receive a voucher for our camp for the following year.

Q: How do I apply?

Q: What do I bring to camp? What should I wear?

Q: If it rains, will camp be cancelled?

A: Unless there is extremely inclement weather, we will be outdoors.

Q: How can I reserve a space in the Advanced Center of Excellence?

A: Download the application to the Advanced Center and mail it in with your deposit and Medical Form, OR request a brochure if you are unable to download by contacting Ron Raab: 434-982-5576 or rhr2n@virginia.edu.

Q: My child is a goalkeeper. Will there be specialized training for them?

A: Yes. There is a specialized training program for the goalkeepers which includes technical/tactical sessions along with matches to assess each player's strengths and weaknesses within a game.

Q: Can I fax my application?

A: No, your application must be accompanied by a deposit check AND your medical form.

Q: Can I pay by credit card?

A: No.

Q: Are there any group discounts?

A: Yes, for groups consisting of 12 or more campers, who send their registrations in together at the same time. They will receive a $15 per camper discount.

Q: What is the best airport to fly into?

A: For Virginia the closest airport to the University of Virginia is Charlottesville Regional Airport. Richmond's airport is 1 hour away, and Dulles International is 1 hour and 45 minutes away.

A: For Episcopal the closest airport to Episcopal H.S. is Reagan National Airport (5 miles). Dulles is ~45 minutes away and Balitmore is ~1 hour away.

Q: How do campers get to and from the airport to camp?

Q: Will there be a camp store? What will it have to offer?

A: Yes, there will be a Nike camp store with a variety of clothing and equipment. There will also be pizza, drinks, and snacks for sale at the camp store.

Q: Can a camper arrive early or late? Can a camper leave early or late?

A: Yes. However the camper will be responsible for making their own arrangements with regards to transportation and lodging. Additionally, the camper MUST notify Ron Raab IN WRITING of either early/late arrival or departure.

Q: Are parents allowed to watch?

A: Yes, parents are welcome to watch their child participate during training or games.

Q: What happens if a camper fails to turn in their key at checkout?

A: They will be charged $150 to replace the missing key.

Q: Are linens provided?

A: No, each camper should bring their own linens, pillow, blankets and towel.

Q: How can I reach a camper during the week?

A: Each camper has a phone in her own room with the ability to make calling card calls as well as receive incoming calls. These numbers are available when the child checks in at camp.

Q: Can I request a roommate? Can friends have a room near each other?

A: At Virginia the dorms we use for camp are suite style. Each camper has her own room, but it is joined with several other rooms by a common living area. Please request a suite-mate in the space provided on the application. If you have other friends or teammates who are attending, please list them as well and we will do our best to accomodate your request.

A: At Episcopal the dorms we use are traditional two (2) to a room with a common bathroom on the hallway. You may request a roommate in the space provided on the application. If you have other friends or teammates who are attending, please list them as well and we will do our best to room them nearby.

Q: How can I send mail to my child during camp?

A: At Virginia mail can be sent to the Women's Soccer Office at : McCue Center, 3rd Floor, PO Box 400847, Charlottesville, VA 22904.

A: At Episcopal mail can be sent to Soccer Centers of Excellence, C/O Episcopal High School, 1200 North Quaker Lane, Alexandria, VA 22302.

Q: What happens if there is an emergency and I need to get in touch with my daughter during camp?

A: When you register for camp you will be handed a camp schedule and a list of numbers to contact in case of emergency.

Q: Should I bring money? Is there a place to keep money and valuables at camp?

A: There is a camp store, and money can be spent on food and Nike equipment. However, bringing and keeping money is the sole responsibility of the camper. We recommend that each camper lock their rooms when they are not in them and to keep whatever money and valuables they have brought with them in their rooms. How much money should be brought is up to you.


GRAVES YOUTH CENTER QUESTION & ANSWERS:

Q: What are the accommodations?

A: The players and staff reside in non air-conditioned basic bunk houses with bath rooms located in a separate building. Most of the dorms do not have A/C but have good ventilation and the evenings are cool. You may bring a fan. All meals are eaten in the Main Lodge and are all you can eat buffet style.

Q: What is the supervision like at the youth and team camps?

A: The nature of the camp is self-contained and allows the campers time to be around the general living area to play and relax during down time. The close proximity of the dorms to the fields and dining area, along with the staff living in each of the bunk style dorms with the campers, will allow for greater interaction and 24 hour supervision.

Q: What does each camper receive?

A: Each camper will receive a T-shirt and soccer ball.

A: No, each camper should bring their own linens, pillow, blankets or sleeping bag and towel.

Q: Can I request a roommate? Can friends have a room near each other?

A: Yes, they can request a "bunkmate" and to be in the same bunk dorm as a few of their friends. We will do everything possible to accommodate everyone's requests.

Q: Are there any group discounts?

A: No there are no discounts for this camp.

Q: What happens if my child is injured or sick during camp?

A: There are emergency numbers to contact the directors at all times. In addition, certified trainers will be in residence with the campers throughout the camp in case of injury, illness, or emergency.
